Making a Difference in Australia and New Zealand
Mar 15, 2021

Lucy J. is excited about her ability to have a positive impact on vulnerable people.

As the Sustainability and Communications Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Lucy works directly with the Australian Red Cross, mental health agency Beyond Blue, and other service organizations working to help people in need.

“My job at Kimberly-Clark enables me to directly contribute to our goal to advance the well-being of 1 billion people in underserved communities around the globe by 2030,” Lucy says with pride. “Here in Australia and New Zealand, we are focused on improving family health and well-being, increasing social connection, and advancing female empowerment.”

One aspect of this drive is the What’s Happened to You school curriculum, which was developed by U By Kotex to educate disadvantaged young women and fight menstrual stigma. Since 2016, it has reached more than 734,000 girls in Australia and 300,000 students in New Zealand.

In addition, Kimberly-Clark has launched a three-year strategic partnership with Red Cross Australia to support a healthy baby program in an aboriginal community in the Northern Territory of Australia. The Galiwin’ku Baby Hub offers health and dental checkups for indigenous families plus music, art, and literacy activities.

These programs are particularly meaningful to Lucy.

“Each of our programs has a lens that I really connect with personally, especially family health and well-being,” she says. “I have a baby and know how important growth and development is for children in those early days, and we have an incredible opportunity to change the lives of people living in very vulnerable scenarios and make a lasting impact.”

Overall, Kimberly-Clark Australia and New Zealand has improved the wellbeing of 1.3 million people through its brands since 2016.

Kimberly-Clark actively encourages all of its 40,000 global employees to think about how the company and they as individuals can better serve their communities.

We give every staffer a paid day every year to perform volunteer work for the nonprofit of their choice. On top of that, the company donates money to the charities where employees volunteer.

It’s all part of our mission to make life better all around the world not only through our essential products and but also as a good corporate citizen.
